Monday: From Russia With Love
I love this movie. It has one major ingredient many spy films are lacking. Spying.
I love the confusion thrown in between MI-6, SMERSH, and SPECTRE. Plus, Tatiana Romanov was awesome.

Today, Goldfinger!
I'd been wanting to see this one a long time. I especially enjoy the amount of screen time the villain got in it, as opposed to the previous two movies. Also, the use of gadgets increased, which I liked.
They killed waaay too many of the Bond girls though, and the golf scene took a while longer than necessary, IMO.
Basically, an amazing movie, though I still like FRWL better.

I always want to like James Bond films, but it never fails... whenever I find myself watching one, I realize that I would rather watch every episode of Falcon Crest end-to-end than finish the movie. Maybe the books are better?

Like many of you, I like Sean Connery as Bond best. He defined the role and made it what it was.
Pierce Brosnan's Bond was very much in the Connery mold, he returned it to what it to what it once had been.
Timothy Dalton did well with what he had to work with. His bond reminded me more of the books and after Moore, I was happy to see that.
George Lanzaby didn't get a fair shot. The one movie that he did wasn't a great Bond movie, but I don't blame him for that. I think that he did well with what he had to work with.
Daniel Craig's Bond is far removed from everyone who came before him. It's a different character to me. It's not bad, it's just not Bond.
Lastly, we come to Roger Moore. I hated pretty much every one of the Moore movies which all were interchangable to me. They always seemed too cartoon-ish, the chases, the fights, the gadgets, the villians, everything. I think that I liked Dalton just because he wasn't Moore.
Did I mention that I hated the Moore movies?

unlike some of the people posting I dont have the privilege of being born in the Connery era, instead I was born at the start of the Brosnan era
so the only "new release" Bond films I have been old enough to appreciate are the Craig films.
Criticizing Craig for quantum of solace is pointless, virtually no actor could have made that script work.
Perhaps I'm not in the best position to judge as I have only read a couple of the books but..

So THIS is what happens when you suddenly give a franchise a hugely expanded budget.
Seriously, they tripled the budget from Goldfinger. $3 million to $9 million!
Overall I liked it, though there were several parts that seemed out of place, or just badly done.
Bond's attempted death-by-massage-chair
; the underwater battle scene dragged on a bit long; and the "speeding" boat, where they just sped up the footage, probably could've been done better.
But aside from those, it was good. The main villain was excellent, and I like how they're pushing the involvement of SPECTRE ever more.

I'm seriously torn about this movie. On one hand, I thought the whole plot of it, the villains, their evil plan, etc, was all quite original, and fairly well done. However, it all seemed a bit ridiculous for a Bond film, at least for what I've seen so far (especially his ninja training sequence).
This is either the best one yet or the worst one. I can't decide.
Thus, for now, I'm putting it in the middle, and will likely change my rating for it in the future, when I've got a better understanding of the whole film series.

I really wanted to like this movie.
I really wanted to be able to look at the people who deride George Lazenby, and say that just because he only did one movie, it doesn't mean he was a bad James Bond!
But I can't.
This movie just lacked so much. I'm not sure whether the fault lies with George Lazenby, or if it was the writing.
And there was just so much buildup to the master plan of the villain, just to have it all solved in a few minutes. Plus, the ending... well, I'll just have to move on to the next movie to see how they address this ending.

Wow, am I ever late for this thread. About a month ago, this cat aired all Bond films (including Skyfall), in sequence, all in HD, on Veetle, and I got to catch them all. He kept it going for 2 weeks. I don't have a favorite, but can definitely say that "Moonraker" was the worst, for plausibility. Sure, Connery defined the role, but Lazenby did do it justice (due to a good script), and I have enjoyed immensely Daniel Craig's interpretation. "Skyfall" deals with Bond's origins. I don't want to risk spoiling it, for those who have not seen it, yet. I like Brosnan's Bond, as well, but the scripts were a bit out there, and he waited a long time to get to play the part, thus coming off as being a bit old. Rating the Bond girls is grounds for another thread, altogether, but I will also represent for Barbara Bach, especially since "The Spy Who Loved Me" was one I actually saw in the theater, in 1977.

I personally really enjoyed You Only Live Twice, but I agree that it's the start of what will become the ridiculousness of the Moore era of writing. I had contemplated putting it a bit higher, but it's hard to let anything yet surpass Goldfinger and FRWL.
I've really enjoyed them all so far, and like how the style slowly changes... looking forward to Roger Moore! That begins tomorrow!

Wow, mixed feelings here.
I was disappointed initially by the first half of the movie; I didn't like how quickly they tied up the story leftovers from the previous film, and the main plot seemed to be moving too slowly.
But man, they really fixed it up in the second half! (including fixing my complaint about tying up the previous film's story... I'll leave out details for those that may not have seen it).
I also quite liked the complexity of the plot. It honestly took me a while to figure it out...
And while I may be lynched for this opinion: This is what I'd always pictured the Bond movies being like. A little ridiculous, a little serious, good action sequences, an over-the-top plot by the villain... if the beginning half had flowed smoother, this could've been my favorite. Apologies to the Bond purists.

To me, "Live and Let Die" is the Bond franchise's nod to the "Blaxploitation" films of the era. Jane Seymour makes her career debut (YUMMY!). After that, it's "Man With the Golden Gun," with Christopher Lee doing a good job as a villain...and Britt Eklund (double YUMMY!).
