Rant about gigbags.

Sorry but I need to get this out.

Today I went to the studio and took my Yamaha with me in a gigbag.

Anyway, as I was unloading my stuff from the car, my gigbag fell apart and my bass ended up on the pavement, with yet ANOTHER dent in it. One of the zips is now broken.

I'm sick of this happening. This is the third gigbag I've had that's had that's broken like this.

Grrrrrrr....:spit:

Hello Fassa . . . it was a real drag to hear about the several incidents you've had with your untrustworthy gig bag plus the new damage on the Yamaha too. I've been buying and using Carvin gig bags for about 3 years now.. Not only are they quite affordable, but they wear well too.. They don't get babied at all either.

Any recommendations on good not to pricey bags/cases?

We are moving house in a cpl of months and I have today 4 axxes, and 2 projects, this will become a problem during the move since I have only one hard case. The rest came with "soft" bags of the kind that really doesn't protect the instrument at all. I am not interested in paying a fortune, but I need something to pack all these babes up in.

For the cash the roadrunner bags are most excellent and have not let me down. All my builds go in them and they are retail at around $60.
I did have one of my basses fall out of the back of the truck but it was in the gig bag and only left a small dent.
Sorry to hear about your issue.
Good luck,
Dirk

I used a Roadrunner for about three years now without problems and with moderate use (gig and or practice weekly). I will swap out my Carvin bag for a Roadrunner after other GAS needs are met (more pedals please) because of its cheap materials (foam handles are folded polystyrene strips covered with gortex).

In regards to dings and stuff, they happen. Our basses are personal instruments and we like to keep them pristine but given the traveling nature of our business its almost impossible.

yea i have a pretty sad roadrunner gigbag. someone gave it to me for free, but the bottom seam was completely ripped. so i did a lot of work patching and sewing it. not too long after, the seam at the side handle ripped, so all the foam is sticking out. o wells

All those same things happened to my roadrunner bag as well. Granted, it took over a year, but I would have liked for it to last much longer

Fer cryin' out loud, learn from your mistakes! Spend some money and get a decent gig bag or a hardshell case!
+1... cheap gig bags are exactly that, cheap.

Look at the long term. Buy a gig bag that costs three or four times what you're paying for the cheapies, and they'll last at LEAST three or four times as long, will protect your basses better, and will not fail when you need them to work.
