Rant : Higher Education

It's just a waste of time and money so people can brag about how much they went to school.

I disagree. It pays off in the end, as cliche as that may sound. There are some well paying jobs that can only be filled by the right people(university graduates) because they have the knowledge and 'experience' to do it. Sure you can get a degree in something that has a competitive market(few jobs, lots of applicants), or the general public thinks is a waste(art comes to mind here), but if you are passionate enough about it to find to go to university to learn about it and get a degree, then hey, thats awesome. You achieve one of your goals. That job could pay off eventually.

If its technical you're golden, arts screwed, and if its writing you're a teacher, so just be glad that its in a lab.

So just think that its only one day in your life. If you get to be 90 i'm pretty sure you can't sense time intervals less then a year. :D

Three days from now you wont even remember how tough it is. SUCK IT UP. I have had to do it several times, and every time it pays off.

p.s. there really isn't anything wrong with the people who write or choose an art major :D Job applications from people who have proven their writing skills(thesis, disertation, ect...) are very desirable.

At this time it would be important to note that some people go to college for a job, some go for an education. Is it worth it? Depends on what you want out of it. Munji apparently feels it has "paid" off. I've got friends with multiple majors who have no concrete plan on when to finish (career student). They feel it is worth it as well.

I really enjoyed going to college - played lots of music, met more girls than before or since, saw more bands - generally had fun...

But it has never helped me get a job - in fact it was a hinderance on several occasions!! :hmm:

But then I did study Philosophy!! ;)

:o
I'm studying philosophy. I don't want a job, anyway.
By the way, I found the avatar I have at a job-hunting website for philosophers.
