I dig the indie stuff, Murs, Cann Ox, MF Doom, MF/GM Grimm, Monsta Island Czars, Gift of Gab, Jean Grae, J-Dee, and sometimes Aesop Rock and El-P. But the stuff on the majors is good too: Lil' Wayne, Ghostface, Inspectah Deck, Wu-Tang, Jay-Z, and classics like Slick Rick, Gang Starr, Public Enemy and Eric B & Rakim.

Those bands and more are realy Hip hop to me.I originally listened to Dre's 2001 and later Snoop stuff and I likeit less now.Old Snoop-hell yes.Those cheesy high pitched strings and synths are real annoying

Once again, I love hip hop, but I think you can.... erm, "u can" be a good bassist without rap. You can cut the middleman and relate to funk.

I got XM satellite radio with my new company car, and I've been living at Channel 65, "The Rhyme." Hip-hop and rap is cool, just another color in the musical tapestry.

Not to derail the thread, but Channel 53 on XM, "Fungus", rocks so well. Punky goodness.

i've been getting into a lot of latin hip-hop. like makiza and anita tijoux, calle 13 (people say it's more reggaeton, but it's still awesome), pacha massive. etc.

Mostly political stuff, Immortal Tech, Dead Prez etc.

Revolutionary 1+2 and House Resolution 635. Favorite Tech tracks gotta be Peruvian Cocaine, 4th Branch, Dance With The Devil and Obnoxious. I prefere Tech to Prez cause hes got better beats, and his lyrics are better too.

Also got Best of De La Soul, good album.

Mainstream music doesnt appeal to me, this includes mainstream hip-hop and rap.

Remember, when it's in the pocket, and when it has more meaning than the degrading of other people and the arrogance of a single personality, then it's called Hip-Hop. If it's the same old swag that you hear in top 40 year after year, then it's rap.

My favoties include Mos Def, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Wyclef Jean, The Loyalists, Audible Mainframe, Del The Funky Homosapian, J5, Talib Kweli, RJD2, Digable Planets, and other artists that have infused other music with Hip-hop, like MMW, G.Love & the Special Sauce, or Christian McBride. (you get the picture)

The Roots, Badu, Common, J Dilla, J Dilla again cause he's #1, Biggie, Pac, J5, Gangstarr, Atmosphere, RJD2, Tribe Called Quest, NWA, some Kanye, Big Daddy Kane, Older Snoop, anything Dre produced basically haha.
I love hip hop.
