Rap Vocals with Rode Nt-1a

Am looking for tips on the above, concerning mainly mic placement. I have a vocal booth and am using presonus pre. Am finding highs a little harsh and need a bit of warmth. I know this is a criticism of the mic, so what is the best way to place a mic to help this. I have heard to point the mic downwards towards the chest to get resonance from the body? Any suggestions?

If you are lacking warmth and highs are too harsh, it sounds like a decent tube pre is what you're lacking. FWIW, I consider a decent mic preamp to be the most important thing in a home studio. Presonus makes a lot of preamps. What are you using?

I'm not too big on digital recording, but I'm sure there are plug-ins that can accomplish something similar.

I would even say to move the mic in a bit for more depth & low-end response, provided you aren't getting too much breathing & mouth noise by doing this.

Close mic, off axis with a pop filter i would say. maybe try it on axis first.

FYI For off-axis placement of a condensor, i would just give it a 45ish degree turn. When i say close mic, by the way, probably 4-5 inches.
