I am glad that you now have the bass you have always wanted, that is a major milestone in our lives as bass players.

Although I live in a rural part of B.C a major music store is only 2 hours away. They have never had a Ric in store to try out.
I have to admit that they have Curiosity going !
Why do you Bass Gurus like them so much?
They have a unique look and sound. They’re quirky beasts, though. The last one I had a replaced the bridge with a Hipshot.

I played one as my main bass for about ten years and eventually sold it and I’ve also bought and sold a couple of them since then. They’re not better, just different.

Funny thing about Paul Simonon; the Ricenbacker he played in the early years of Clash was a gift from Patti Smith. & after he had done his splatter paint, & put a picture of Patti from her album Horses on the guard, it was played extensively. Though, he didn't actually enjoy how it sounded, saying it was too thin. & then switched to Precision basses, & the rest is history.

Still awesome, & an idol of mine

Prakash John- Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Parliament-Funkadelic, and many others.

5String...
Thank you...
I was going to put up Prakash John as soon as i saw the thread title!!
Lou Reed-- R&R Animal, Live & Sally Can't Dance... Important albums in my life.... Couldn't give a crap about Lou Reed, it was that band that put him on the map, which he fired because they were so good --Dick Wagner (have his book), Steve Hunter AND Prakash John holding it down!
Was just listening last week to Animal/Live last week... "Oh Jim" what a great example of drums & bass locking together -- tight, tight, tight... Gave Hunter n Wagner the foundation to trade back n forth so seemlessly!
I can't tell you how glad i am that there are others that recognize John for the quality bassist he his... As i sad i was listening last week, and thinking to myself abput TB, and no mention of this guy... Was going to try to find a pic, and post it in the RIC club -- might nick some of your pics here and do that (if you dont mind)
Begining in high school, i cant think of the number of hours spent listening to these albums... Vinyl, cassette n CD/digital (never had 8track)...
I will say that it has been much easier to hear John on digital format, than vinyl or tape because of the limitations of the technology...
Have also checked out some of the Lincoln's and Alice etc utube stuff... But, there should be more of him out there... I guess you could say that he really was/is the epitome of a bass player, in that he was out of the limelight, in a solid supportive role...
Maybe we need to start a Prakash John thread to see how many people out thers know and appreciate him!!
( another player in this catagory of very talented, but overlooked bassists, though a P-basser, is Gary Thain of Uriah Heep --RIP)
Thanx again for "beating"'me to this post!!! It made my day!!

Didn't know this existed.

EDIT: This is the tour after Rock and Roll Animal.

Ya, I've seen this searching for the Animal Tour... John looks like he's just hanging out - dum de dum de dum...
This is great, but i hope someone has some footage of the Hunter/Wagner/John band in action with Reed from that great tour-- before Reed fired his greatest assets-- that is!

Ya the tone/growl is one important thing, but i always thought the neck was what made the instruments... Like driving a Caddy, smooth, easy n powerful!!

Keep at it, I was a Fender player when I first started playing Rics and it did take quite a while for me to get used to them, first thing that helped was raking the cover off, I'm still a Fender player, but also a Ric, a Gibson player and an upright player, you can get used to just about anything if you want to and keep trying. Rics feel second nature to me now.

Don't have pics, but a couple of guys come to mind...

•1st bassist for The Sex Pistols
•1st bassist for Foreigner (lefty) Ed Gagliardi
• The Knack ... Prescott Niles... My Sharona is out front Ric tone
• Doobie Bros... Tiran Porter

• Deep Purple... Roger Glover & Glen Hughes

I think this list is going to explode!!
There are a bunch of '70's bands that had a hit or two that i remember RICs being played...
Going to have to wake up some old brain cells to get some recall on them!
Great Thread ... Look forward to seeing more n more...
