Rattling noise from headstock

You said you checked te screws, but do you mean the screws on the back or on the front of the headstock? Whenever this has happened to me its been because of loose bolt screws ( the bigger wider hollow screw bolt that centers the tuning heads). Make sure they are tight

This. I have had it happen on several basses and it was tuner parts every time.

If it's the truss rod, since the instrument is so new and relatively inexpensive, return it and either make them fix it or make them give you a new one. Either way, you shouldn't be paying another dime for a bass that broke within months of you buying it; if it's that new, it should have a warranty of some kind.

I have this same problem with a new bass. Tightened all screws on the tuning heads and truss rod cover. Buzz persists when I put a finger over the strings behind the nut. I'm pretty sure it's the truss rod. What do I do? I'm happy with the instrument otherwise.

Check the washers. Tighten the tuning machines a bit so they don't move around. Fixed the issue on my ol MIM J.

If its the trus rod its not working... What's your action like? Try to turn it when the guitar is tuned. If the nut moves easily (Very easily) the rod is sat there doing nothing.

It might be the truss rod, but I think it is mostly coming from one of your tuning pegs. from the picture, I can say that one of your tuning pegs became loose. I had the same problem with one of my basses that has has same type of tuning pegs. The actual tuning peg is just a different part than the actual mechanism. Try to hit the strings while applying some pressure on one of the tuning pegs, and do it for all of the individual ones, one at a time. When you locate which one it is, pull it off (just the elephant ear, do not unsrcew anything), apply some kind of glue, and put it back tightly. Let it dry for sometime and you should be good.

It was a washer making the noise caused by the vibration of the strings because the nut was loose. I tightened all the other nuts as well and now I'm good. Thanks everyone!

Probably the truss rod.

Turn the amp louder

I had the same issue on a cheep import
found out the truss rod was not incased in shrink tubing to deaden the rattle.
Gave the neck away to a TBer.

Wait until long after dark , bury it in the neighbor's back yard . It's gone . You will need something that's been made in the USA . Preferably with a Fender decal .

That used to work but I've got too many things buried in the back yard at this time.

Found my problem. Simple... The tuning "leaf" (the part that you grab to tune) was loose on the tuner's shaft. A drop of super thin CA glue at the joint fixed it.
