Finally a thread for these basses that isn't 8 years old!!!!
I bought a 6 string "Elite Wood" in january for around $475. The ebony fretboard is as stated by other Tbers with little tiny pencil tip size holes but unless you are closely inspecting the fretboard it is not noticeable.There is a tiny bit of over sand on the headstock and some over spray on the body wings, but again not noticeable unless you are specifically looking for the defects. As for the electronics the pickups themselves are great, the neck pickup is very sensitive to the amount of attack and where along the body you pluck, the bridge pickup can sound a bit thin when soloed and playing on the G and C strings but the two pups blended..wow it almost gets in Ken Smith territory...almost. As for the preamp, I was psyched for a 18volt preamp in a instrument under 500 but as they say you get what you pay for, I rarely put it in active mode, because it is just bright and harsh no matter how much you play with the knobs, so yea. As for playability, it is my first foray into a 35 inch scale instruments and though it did take some time to get used to I find the neck comfy and the bass does suffer from a bit of neck dive. One of my co-workers plays bass as well and swears up and down that the feel of the neck is the same as his room mate's Ibanez BtB Premium, I have never played one so I can't verify. On to customer service, Eric was great when ups was not updating the tracking information and emailed me back promptly with each question but I never really contacted him after I got the bass except to say thank you. Ok so in summery a Bass with a Walnut body and Ebony fretboard under 500? Experiences can vary I guess but I give mine a 8 out of 10.
