Ray does not like this battery (or vice-versa)

I think we pretty much agree - well designed stuff isn't picky about batteries - you have all kinds of comments about your bass that is picky about batteries - I'll bet you'd prefer that it wasn't picky.

We do agree to some extent. Except I was originally talking about battery composition and how can effect how the battery outputs and that in turn can have an effect on sound. Which is where you quoted me, I def never disagreed w/ what you had said. Also I only commented once about my one picky bass. Lol
 
I’m not a big fan of lithium batteries for this type of application.
I’m not up to date with knowledge of these 9v cells so my opinion is most likely worthless.
I have used lithium polymer batteries extensively in the field of Radio controlled electric airplanes and helicopters and they were great for delivering high amperage but were very volatile. If you’ve ever seen one catch fire, it will certainly get your attention!
I’ve also seen lithium batteries catch fire in vaping e cig devices.
Although the battery in question must be more stable, I still don’t want that technology in my guitar.
The other reason can be summed up as “old dog/new tricks “. I get so much lifespan from traditional alkaline batteries that I don’t see a reason to switch to anything else.

Lithium batteries are volatile when overheated. Well designed lithium battery “packs” have circuit that monitor the voltage and shut it off when voltage gets too low. In power tools (Dc motors), current increases as voltage drops- the increase of current causes heat that can be damaging if left unchecked.
 
I avoid active electronics in guitars, just because batteries are just toxic landfill waste. Anyway, I have the rechargeable wireless system. There are times when it goes weird for noises for a few moments, cutting in & out, then it cleans itself up & discharges the rest of the way for it's capacity. What I think is the issue there, the rechargeable battery has a weak area in the material, might even be degraded. There are times I charge both units of the wireless system, they indicate a full charge and yet the wireless lasts about 1/2 of what it's capacity was brand new (2 of the 4 hours). If I disconnect them form the charging cables, then reconnect them, the wireless units go back to charging and then they last closer to brand new.

How that might relate to your battery issue ? Perhaps there's a dead spot in the battery, that battery might be defective ? I'd use a multimeter to test it for the 9V DC, perhaps even test to see if the battery is stable at 9V when operating your guitar. Maybe test the battery with a 9V pedal if you have one of those that is both battery or Wall Wart wall plug in ?

The stable 9V power is related to another weird battery issue that I have at home. I have several ceiling mounted fire alarms around the house and those seem to need brand new batteries periodically, they get to a certain point of degraded capacity & the fire alarms chirp because the battery is too low to operate the fire alarms in the event of a power outage. But I can use those same batteries in the acoustic electric Applause and they last for months after being used in the acoustic electric. So I save the batteries from the fire alarms & pop them into the preamp of the acoustic electric to not waste any remaining capacity in those used batteries. I've had 12V DC car batteries show as charged, but the moment you draw power from them the voltage drops to less than what is necessary to start a car with. I also recall the battery would show enough power on a multimeter, yet only be able to play a car stereo, but too weak to start the car. And a new car battery is what it took to solve the problem.
