ray or tele or?

ok so here's my scoop, looking to add a bass that will increase my pallet, have P with halfrounds witch is just a great instrument with some awesome tones(like i hate to go to labellas or whatever and give up that availlable brightness, SIT Silencers are loaded:D)

and a fretless J with chromes, just an awesome instrument, woody, bluegrass,(nearly) Skynyrd but not quite(yes i know some of it was fairly muddy tonewise, but it IS`leadbass' like Noel Redding and=that's important to me to cover that styleblahblah) but not AS definitive as it could be WITH FRETS(as they used),and no i'm not hanging a fretted neck ol sunshine:scowl:

so i been perusing a fretted J buy hey!,,can't i have something dif?:eyebrow:like a stingray, fender big block,or even a tele bass or what about the lowly Squire TB basses?

always thought those were cool, big chrome PUP and the maple neck:hyper:

so i guess what i'm asking is=what would you pick up to increase one's tonality,,,another half gallon of Jack Daniels and a Grunge Pedal:D:bassist::eek:

ok=SOME of the live Skynrd recordings were muddy, lots of reasons why that could be of course=that's the reason for editing
