Ray34 Pickups?

Hey Talkbass! So I recently bought a Ray34 after owning a Ray4 for a while. I upgraded my ray4 to have a Bartolini pickup with a darkglass tone capsule preamp. I almost feel like it sounds better than the electronics in the ray34. Is the ray34 electronics a downgrade from the electronics I put in the ray4?

I wouldn’t say a downgrade, just a different flavor.
The Ray34 pickup and preamp are a direct copy of the pre-Stingray Special 3-band electronics (through 2017), albeit with perhaps some lesser components that may contribute to some more noise or hiss in the signal than the USA preamp.
The Bartolini pickup and Darkglass are way on the other side of the sound spectrum.
