This drives me nuts. Unless the most popular version is a live one, the answer is always the studio version. ALWAYS. Nobody cares about that version with the solo you like and nobody knows. I don't care if one guy per gig figures it out and "proves your diversity". If you're going to do covers, learn the version everyone knows and learn it right.

Oh, I learned the live one from the free show at buck tooth bob's in 78 that nobody knows. But the guitars are so thick, man. Ugh. Fired.

If anyone has an excuse for not being prepared.......time to fire them. Don't waste my time. My BL (9pc horn band) provides charts/sheet music for everyone. I'm the only one who doesn't sight read. I learn by ear. I've yet to come to a rehearsal unprepared. My other (R&B) band fired the lead singer due to unpreparedness (among other things). Not too happy with the current singers either. Reading lyrics from your phone while performing ain't cool. Excuses I've heard.....

• Was a busy week for me and didn't have time.
• Listened to the wrong song or version (I've been guilty of this but quickly rectified)
• Most obvious.....they only practice when they come to rehearsal so they try to learn the songs then. Wasting everybody's time.
