RE: Michael Henderson History Questions (help?)

Hi folks,

My first post here on this forum!

I joined this evening because I have been searching for some specific answers on the background of bassist MICHAEL HENDERSON. Either I have found zero info, or I have found contradictory info.

So, my handful of questions are, please:

Where was MH born? Was it Detroit?

Who, fame-list-wise, had MH played with BEFORE he joined MILES (in 1971 ["Tribute To Jack Johnson"])? Was it Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye? Or were there others also?

Which BASS did MH play whilst with MILES? Was it a Stingray or a Fender Jazz? I know, at least, that it was FRETTED.​

Yes, I found that Wiki page earlier but unfortunately it is a little thin on the ground so to speak (shame!).

Do you know the MODEL of bass MH played in 1971 (being an obvious MH fan yourself!)?

"Jack Johnson" it definitely a landmark album! I spent 8 x hours a day for 2 x weeks transcribing the entire MILES solo! lol

All I know, the album says "fender Bass"

I play his licks and runs to this day. And the album is a fantastic driving album.
They rhythm cords John McGlaughin(sp) are intense!
I wish I could help more.

By the sound of the bass, I would say a P Bass.
Straight bass playing there! Holding the pocket!

So a FENDER PRECISION BASS (I am a KEYS player by the way! lol)?

Yes, "JJ" has a great chord-seq. The whole track is just E7 (#9) and then later Bb (13) to Bb (13_sus)!

Most people know him from those great ballads like "You Are My Starship" that guy was blasting on more turntables at more basement parties than I can remember. It's weird that I didn't notice him before that because I love Miles he also played with Stevie Wonder and his career reminds me of Ray Parker Jr's in a way two super talented deep musicians whose careers are very extensive and sometimes that gets overshadowed by their pop hits.

Well DARK MAGUS is a good album, however, personally, I find it somewhat too GUITAR heavy.
