Well, that's a funny thing... I sell a lot of Aguilar cabs (love 'em), and I use a lot of Aguilar on-board bass preamps in my custom basses, but I very seldom get my hands on a piece of Aguilar rack gear so I can't give you an A/B comparison. Besides, as an Aguilar dealer I don't think I could post a comparison without violating some sort of business ethic...

Yes! What a great business community the bass world is. Carey's using my preamp at NAMM, I'm putting his pickups in my retro styled Model J basses, I've gotten finishing tips from Mike Tobias, I've had fingerboards slotted by Sheldon Dingwall, I've had a custom bridge made by Rick Turner, I've helped a few folks build their own instruments... Where else do you find this kind of cooperation?
I've been waiting and watching, but I'm out of patience! Somebody post some tone mp3's from this pre before I explode! 
Positivity... I love it! Best of luck to you and all the other indie luths who provide so many great products and services to the bass community.

Also, the preamp with the eq activated is now more open sounding and closely resembles the sound of the pre with the eq bypassed. Folks, you really have to hear this thing!!!! I used it on a gig this past Tues. It is a really wonderful preamp. In the past I owned an Alembic F1-X, and that was my preamp of choice- until now. Not that there's anything wrong with the Alembic- it's that the Purity preamp is that good. It's tone is very detailed-yet it has the warmth I like from a tube preamp.
The Soundman at the gig is also a bass player, you should have seen his face when he started working with my send! He along with a few other members of the soundcrew were full of questions and compliments about my tone.
Besides sounding great, it's built like a tank. All the controls and switches are extremely sturdy-which is something I also look for.
I'm generally a skeptic when it comes to a new piece of gear-and it's common for me to have to "get to know it" before I start liking it. I instantly liked the sound of the Purity preamp.

I wish I had the know-how to post a sample of it's tone for everyone to listen to. Jack has bent over backwards to make sure the Purity is everything I hoped it would be-which it is and more. Perhaps emjazz or Jack himself has the ability to post a sound sample.
I'm now torn on either selling my SWR I.O.D. or keeping it as either an effects unit or as a different tonal option-which I feel is the one of the advantages of having a rackmount setup.
I'd also like to thank emjazz and Talk Bass for making me aware of the Purity preamp. I've learned quite a bit during my short time here, and not just about the Purity, but about a very wide range of gear related issues.

Funny you should ask. Since the B-15 was one of my favorite purpose-built bass amps (that is, it's great for that "certain sound") I built one from scratch with excellent results. I made some embellishments along the way to reduce noise. Jess Oliver's design was wonderful, but the components he had to work with (and price point, too, no doubt) did impose some limitations.
