Someday these days i´ll loose the last remaining bit of my mind...

I buy vinyl records to have music to listen to without relying on a computer or phone.
Ordered a record, was´nt at home and instead of giving the thing to one of my neighbors or bring it to the dhl shop in the supermarket around the corner, the driver put it in the packstation
I drive there, walk to the packstation ready to put in the code, only to find out theres a new one...had to walk back to my car to get my phone and download a godshagin app to acces my record...:banghead:

Man, i miss the times before smartphones...i hate this modern world we live in so so much (and i´m only 40)




sorry, i had to vent about this, all this modern crap drives me nuts

Went to a craft beer pub a few days ago. Over 50 taps. Asked for a beer list. Bartender refers us to a QR code embedded in the bar. Wife's phone won't recognize it. Mine does. Code takes me to a downloadable PDF file, not a website version. I download the PDF (yay ...more clutter to remember to find and delete later). My phone won't read the PDF. I send it to my wife by attaching it to a Signal message. Her phone manages to read the PDF, and we finally select and get beer and a sammich.

I'm with you, brother. Tech makes life easier for everyone but customers.

I feel your pain.

Even though I'm quite computer literate, I have more aggravation and frustration with so many apps these days. EVERYTHING has an app, from ordering pizza to buying a car. And so few of them seem to work like they're supposed to. I log in, place the order, go to checkout, and then get a "something went wrong" message, and start it all over again.

Likely it's user error on my part, but there are those apps that are simply garbage.

What's bad about being this age is that we know how the digital stuff was supposed to go, and the tremendous promise it had. Instead, we have seen it bought up and bastardized into a cesspool of user-tracking, metadata scraping, privacy-erasing, backdoored, dragnetted, "targeted ad"-littered, "subscription based," rent-seeking garbage.

The kids who were born with phones in their hands have the luxury of not knowing any better, but some of us are painfully aware of just how badly we have been ripped off, robbed, used, and abused.


And we're about to have to buy new laptops, which will, no doubt, be loaded with all the latest crapware. And now, that descriptor includes the OS. :meh:

A couple times, I have brought in my Smart phone with a Bar Code largely displayed, only to be told I need a "QR' Code and the Bar code is useless.
GRRR:rage::mad:
That was at the US post office.
Then once, The code had expired after about 3 days for an Amazon Return.

Each time I had to drive home and back again.

I'm close; Mine is from 2016, but the then-new-and-fancy touchscreen is starting to bulge out of the frame, probably from the battery swelling up behind it. It's gotta go, and soon. :dead: :thumbsdown:

Desktop is from [well before your laptop] though. :whistle:

I'm sure that I am an outlier and perhaps most everywhere these days, but I don't own a "smart phone". All my online presence is my PC.
It's only been in the last year or so, that I am finding it increasingly difficult to get things done without a phone, ie concert tickets and such.
We rely on my wife's phone for that and most other things that require a smart phone.
I am still really holding back on getting one as I have seen how they take over peoples lives. That's not a direction I personally want to go. I still may have to though... then I too, can enjoy all the added complications to my life!

Early computer adopter here (going back to CPM). Even built a few over the years. Early cell phone and smart phone adopter too. I’m with you. I’m ready to give up and chuck it in the bin. I’d miss TB. But not much else.

There is too much tech! :spit:Everything is soooooo complicated and nothing works properly.:meh: I think this is why people are so irritable these days.:rage:You can't even buy a $10 CD for cash without getting the third degree.:banghead: They want all your persona info just to make a simple purchase.:mad: Look at how long it takes to turn on and program your TV just to get the 6 o'clock news.:thumbsdown: It's ridiculous and there is no need for it.:rollno:

I was informed that my Microsoft phone was not going to work when they dropped the 3G network latter this month, my Lumia 640 LTE phone runs on 4G LTE so it should have been ok but they have done something on the system so it's now no good anymore.( I have only had it 11 years).
So my Lumia ran on Windows 8 and it would not update to the latest web browser that I don't use anyway, its a phone not anything else for gods sake.
I ordered a new Iphone 16 Pro and to activate the new sim card, they sent a message to my Lumia that would not open because of the old web browser in the Lumia could not read it, how am i supposed to get a new phone started when my old phone can't say yes to the upgrade to the new one ?

It has taken 3 days to turn everything off that I don't need running in my new stupid "smartphone".
Ps.... the so called news-feed it tried to keep running was worse then Days Of Our Life, who gives a crap if miss so and so has a new pink dress for her dog ?
If Russia just invaded China it would not make it on that news feed as long as some so called celebrity farted in public.

It all depends on how much cash people have on hand, any money in banks might get wiped out or if it survives there will be no way to get any.
The only way to ensure your money survives a complete internet crash is to keep printed copies of your account updated twice daily, and even that might not work.
Cash will be king again.
