Double Bass Realist failing

Mine about that age too and I've stopped using it on my carved German bass because the sound is so harsh. Maybe the pressure from the foot of the bridge kills it after a while. Not a bad marketing strategy if you think about it. I've never used the other 2 Gage pickups. I'm using a Rev Solo now and looking for other options.

At this point you probably have nothing to lose, so you may want to try lifting the bridge foot off the pickup and putting a piece of paper between them to increase pressure on the pieze elements and, possibly, achieve better contact.

If it is fried, I hear good things about the Lifeline. There's one in the classifieds right now, I believe.
