Really bad gas onstage?

Here's what you do.

Pick your favorite bandmate. Go over to them right before (if they're the guitarist, which lets face it, he's the guy most will pick) the guitar solo.

Get him to do the "standing back to back" pose, and let it go and split back to your side of the stage.

He'll get a couple notes into the solo before it kicks in.

This is exactly what the lead guitarist did to me at our last gig. Luckily I didn't smell a thing!

All kidding aside... I thought I had something severly wrong with me. For a few years, life was very uncomfortable. I stopped eating protien bars and shakes, and my life is renewed.

Strange thing was it didn't even matter if I ate one on any given day. Those things I found were messing my stomach up for days. I think that's why I never identified them as the problem. When I stopped eating them altother, the problem disappeared. I'm like a regular human again. Well, at least regarding stage, and other public farts.

Might be something in your diet.

The correct term for the practice is "crop dusting" and primarily applies to leaving the gift somewhere in or around a co-worker's cubicle.

+1, especially as you get older. :atoz: Lots of great stuff I can't eat w/o getting GAS and not the equipment kind...:atoz:

Beano works well when taken when you start eating.

Drinking more water and eating more raw veggies like celery, bell pepper, fruit like apples, pears and such helps keep your system clean. If you poop is delayed/slowed by inadequate fiber, lots of gas can follow.

Beans and cheese will create a cloud around me. Also, too much greasy foo.

Your diet is easy enough to test: try a bland diet for a couple of days and see how it goes. Might be something simple to change.

A (non) scientific hypothesis: it has to do with the low frequencies. Standing in front of a cranked bass speaker/monitor creates sympathetic vibrations with the largest cavity of the body. Something's gotta give. Being close to the guitar player may trigger the response. But don't worry, bass players farts don't stink. :smug:

My son, at the ripe old age of 14, let loose a real stinker at the very first practice. ... small bedroom loaded with warm equipment, 4 kids and a manager with 20 minutes experience as a manger. The boys thought it was hillarious, but I thought we'd have to look for a new girl singer!

I tend to be on the receiving end with not one but two front-line guys who are prone to these "issues" from time to time. It's not really that funny after awhile. Let's just say there have been shows where I'm really glad I'm wireless...

Still if it has to happen, it's better it happens onstage than in the van.

Diet obviously has a lot to do with it. Subway > BK > Taco Bell. Onions cause me a lot of problems in that regard so while I like them, out of consideration I try to avoid eating them on gigs and/or travel.
