I was in a similar situation once, staying with my first real band only because I wanted that cd for myself at least. The music was great. Some band members not So much. Drummer left, so we resorted to hire one for the recording, someone we knew...
A month before we were to record, they kicked me out. By then I had not been able to show my contempt for the guitarist and it was obvious I was fed up.
They recorded the album without me, guitarist played bass. Album was lacklustre, they spent way too much money, argued a lot and after they left the studio they went their separate ways, angry at eachother.
Since then, I have learnt to walk early if things are not fun.
As a result, I am now pretty busy, and everyone I play with is someone I can rely on and call enough of a friend. It did not happen overnight, but it's like a snow ball rolling downhill: hang out with the right people who hang with the right people... and You get yourself a pretty decent network of people you can depend on. Get rid off flakes, life is way too short. You already misspent two years, cut your losses and don't add more time to the count...
That's my opinion.
