Really, really dumb things you want to do

1) Giant mixing bowl of ice cold chocolate pudding on stage. Big spoon. FLING! Laugh. Run.

2) I know a few policemen in this town. I have always wanted to get them to block off a street downtown and try to recreate that old U2 video by setting up on top of a building and getting a bunch of communications students I know to bring video cameras just to see how far I could take the joke. I mean play it up BIG TIME. Get a few friends to run through the college campus down there and spread a rumor that a famous band is filming a music video on a roof downtown. If I could get a crowd of like 5,000 to ditch class and run into the streets only to play something like "Brown Eyed Girl" or "Dancing Queen" (or something else equally ridiculous) that would be epic. I would watch the video every day for a very long time.

3) Set an empty 8-10 cab on stage (with a real cab behind it to make some noise) and have someone in a prison uniform and handcuffs jump out of it about halfway through the last set plowing into me and knocking me over and run through the crowd and out the back door (without telling the band or the club management it was going to happen).

4) 40" scale five string with one bridge humbucker and a volume knob. Bass boat metal flake orange with blinking LEDs everywhere. Matching wrist and head bands in Kustom tuck and roll style orange metal flake.

5) Go to a home decor shop where a friend of mine works and borrow about 30 faux ficus trees. Set them up all over the stage at a club just to see what everyone's reaction would be. I mean ALL OVER the stage. Like between band members. Totally covering up all gear. Nothing more decorative mind you. Just ficus trees. Get the band to take the stage as if nothing were out of the ordinary. We could rock out with a tree right in front of each of us acting as though we don't even see them. Film. Watch. Laugh.

6) Buy a really cheap knockoff of my best friends vintage Strat and pretend to accidentally break it in half by falling over it right after a set while walking off stage (as soon as he gets far enough away that he won't immediately know it is a fake). I'll stand up with the broken neck in my hand looking at him (right in front of the whole crowd) and say "Dude! Why did you put this in my way, idiot?????" (and then run with the broken pieces in my hands and his real guitar safely hidden on stage) Film. Watch. Laugh.

7) Bring a hot plate or some other kind of portable stove to the gig and just start making scrambled eggs right on stage during a set break (sitting cross legged on the floor). And when I get them made just take a few plates of them out to tables in the bar. Drop them on the table with a couple of forks and walk away without saying a word and the most serious expression on my face.

I could do this all night. Dumb ideas is my wheelhouse.

1) An all-metal drum kit. Hi-hats, crashes, pots and pans. Have two pedals on a gong - one kick pedal and another pedal that mutes/unmutes it like the brakes on a bicycle wheel.

2) Modify a mid-sized UHaul truck so that the sides of the trailer can all drop down. Use it as a mobile stage and do the surprise parking lot UHaul tour.

I am so jealous of this idea. Can you imagine doing sort of "flash mob" type things with this? Roll up on a street and play one song (just quickly enough to get out before the police show up) and then head across town and do it again. You could play to half a dozen audiences a night!
