The same guy I referenced above also runs a Fairfield Barbershop. He must be onto something! One of these days I’ll get a Damnation Audio Dirtfixer for this and the Fairfield Barbershop.
I can confirm that the Mira is very good and a while ago they were blowing them out for under ~$100.Can’t go wrong with a Keeley Bassist. The EHX Bass Preacher is decent as well. Word on the boards is the Walrus Mira is really good and not expensive.
If you want to spend, Cali76.
If you get a Source Audio Atlas, you can have really good models of all of these charector compressors (and many more) at the flick of a switch.Three I can recommend:
- Keeley Bassist A super clean transparent compressor. Easy to dial in and virtually impossible to make yourself sound bad with it.
- Mad Professor Forest Green Another very capable and easy to use compressor that "just sounds good" and adds a little special sauce to your sound.
- Ampeg Opto Comp Inexpensive very bass oriented compressor that adds some nice girth to your sound.
Another vote for the Ampeg OptoComp.Three I can recommend:

What’s a good , go-to compressor pedal for bass that’s good for classic rock, country and blues? My buddy got me a UAFX audio 1176 compressor for Christmas last year. Friggin awesome compressor pedal but some part of me feels like it does better with guitar, especially those Lowell George and Jimmy Page tones so I keep it on my guitar rig. Maybe I should mess around it more for bass? I also wound up grabbing a Donner blue compressor on amazon last year for $30. This has been decent for my bass but I feel like I can do better. Another buddy of mine keeps talking about Xotic SP.
Any recommendations?
Yes. I went through the large format Cali76tx, their Compact Bass, Whirwind opto comp, and a slew of others. I spent a lot of time adjusting for different scenarios, different basses, different amps.Keeley Bassist works for me for country and classic rock. Just set so the light taps red when you dig in at like 3:1. Unity gain. So easy.
