Reasonably priced custom cabinet builders

Thats what I'm running into - cab companies that make guitar cabs where "custom" means "oval port". Bass cabs are so much different, and the setup I'm looking for is out of the realm of "2x12 with a cool port". :D

Thanks though James - I appreciate it - so far Low Down seems like the top option other than Lopo - hopefully they'll email me back soon with some ideas, feedback, quotes, etc.

I love my LDS custom sealed 610... i can wholeheartedly say it was CHEAP ($599 plus shipping) and it sounds great. I will say this though, you may get an unrealistic quote for the wait-time. I was told about 6 weeks, but it turned into 10. Not a problem so long as you can rein in your GAS-fueled impatience.

Another option: http://verellenamplifiers.com/ Relatively new amp builder, and they're building custom cabs as well from what I've read. Also, the Emperor cabs are pretty awesome. Caught the band Torche on tour and they had what looked like a few 2x15's stacked horizontally (could have been 8x10's, i couldn't see through the grill cloth) and it sounded quite nice. Bear in mind both of these companies have a pretty specific target audience (stoner, sludge, doom metal, etc... think along the lines of Orange and Sunn cabinets).

I was quoted 6 weeks and it took 8, with 2 weeks of my own diddling on extra crossover testing. So right about on time.

From reviewing what I've seen of other manufacturers I think LDS has some of the best grasp on the science bass cabinet design, and also has an excellent custom crossover guy working with him.

Don quoted me 4 weeks, and it was closer to 6. Again, there was the crossover controversy, so I can understand why there was some delay...

OP, you might consider what you are looking for, before searching for price.

Do you need small and light, loud, low, old-school, Hifi, dub/reggae...

Price is directly proportional to the amount of labor and materials required. A box with a 15 + 6 is nowhere close to the complexity of a horn loaded box such as a DR280. Nor should it be anywhere close to the cost.
