Herndon/Chantilly Va.
I have a pair of EV EKX passive 12's.

Frequency Response (-3 dB): 82 Hz — 18 kHz
Frequency Range (-10 dB): 55 Hz - 20 kHz
Rec. High-Pass Frequency: 55 Hz

Why would I need to set a HPF at 55 Hz? Is this implying the crossover point?

Thanks.

The speaker will try and reproduce below 55Hz but its audible output below that frequency will be at least 10db below the rest of what it's producing. That's is why it says (-10dB) 55hz to 20KHz.

So there will be wasted power below 55Hz by whatever amp is driving it. Also true above 20KHz but that takes very little power and no one can hear up there anyhow.
