Double Bass Rec - luthier to do a Removable Neck

Where are you located? I would imagine proximity might play a part in your decision.
Not all basses are a good retrofit candidate for this.
I've seen several in the last few years that broke when the snakeoil failed, including one I installed using someone else's system. 'Not ideal when you are on tour 6000 miles from home...

Making a bass into a removable neck isn't all that complicated, and there are lots of ways to do it.
IMO, the most important step is making sure you have, or can definitely get, a case that will neatly hold the body and the neck. I'll assume you want to be able to fly with this - that's usually the best reason to try a removable neck - so it also needs to be a pretty heavy duty case. There were a few people making these, however none of them were inexpensive.
You also might want to consider the difference - in both price and difficulty - between using your new, smaller, removable neck case and a "regular" full-size bass flight case. Airlines will still take the latter, though they will charge for the privilege.

The fact that the neck is removable doesn't affect the mensure, that would change in the same way it would change on a fixed neck bass.
