I feel for you..
Finding one bass that's a high price tag that you can't walk into a store and check out is a gamble.
SOUNDS LIKE 2 BASSES
I"m tripped up on "Jazz" this means a ton of different stuff to a room full of people...
For the Gospel I get tripped up on the bass being part of the chain. Some venues allow amps.. some are direct. I have several that are rotated depending if it's an amp/pa support or direct.. all have their own output needs. Church venue music is the one that really depends on the room, amplification option and player's touch. It does seem as if a solid active preamp is the common bonus.
DIRECT SOLICITATION
I know this will sound a little non-traditional. I'd scour Youtube finding guys that have exactly what you're looking to achieve - then pop them a private note soliciting a buy. I can't tell you the number of basses I've bought right after a concert.
BOTIQUES & Customs==============
I own a bunch of custom and/or botique basses - while cool, commonly they're disheartening when with a little patience and shopping a production bass quickly comes along that achieves the same objective.
It's more disheartening when it comes to resale time.
