Hybrid fretted/fretless bass. I absolutely love it and the learning curve was actually quite easy to get around.

Congrats on being the owner of probably one of the most unique production basses in the world..!!! Mine is the Raspberry Stained Burst Gloss finish one, instead of that with Dragon Eye Burst finish.

Have you found the usage of it? Never brought my SRAS7-RSG on stage.

I plan on using it onstage! There’s a part in one of my band’s songs I plan on using the fretless side for.

I have the Dragoneye burst model. I drop-filled the fretless side nut and recut for heavier gauge strings. I have it tuned GDAD-DAD. It's a quirky instrument and I really like it .

You see, that’s what I planned in doing before I ordered mine, but then when I got it, I decided to keep it the way it is. I really like having the fretless A string on top of everything.

How is the neck taking the strain from the heavier strings so far? I would be very interested in this bass if I could use it in GDAE-DAE tuning or maybe even CGDA-DAE tuning. Still, the Ibanez soundgear basses, which this seems to be based on, have pretty frail necks. So I am hesitant if I'd kill the instrument by using a lower tuning.
Also, how is the EQ on the fretless strings working for your drop D tuning?
An interesting concept for sure.

The EQ is mainly an addition to the natural tone; it's a superbly-made instrument and its acoustic tone tells you this. The piezo EQ is versatile enough.

I run the stock strings on the fretted side (D'adds?) and Jim Dunlops on the fretless.

So you've experienced frail necks on Ibanez SR basses?

I'm not denying there would be a case or two... but slim necks don't always mean they are frail. I own 5 SR basses: two 5ers, two 6ers, and a 7er (the SRAS7). I use them on their standard tunings, but I've changed strings on all of them. None of the necks have twisted or gone ski jump.

Couldn't agree more on the natural tone. The fretted side is truly a jazz bass with clear bite sound and nice growl when I dig it in. And though it has tight string spacing, the slap sound is amongst the best I ever heard.

The fretless side is nice warm and mellow, just as other Ibanez basses with under saddles piezo.

But we have the opposite tastes on the strings. I keep the stock D'Addario Chromes on the fretless side (though I've lightened the .065 D string with a .060) and changed the stock fretted side D'Addario XL Nickels to Dunlop Super Bright Nickels.

Has anyone tried either of these tunings? Wondering if nut filing would be needed?

Standard 7-string tuning (low to high):
Fretless: B-E-A
Fretted: D-G-C-F
or
Flipped 6-string tuning:
Fretless: D-G-C
Fretted: B-E-A-D

I'm used to 6-string basses so would really want to still have the range of a 6 or 7 string, instead of the regular 4-string range that is the default SRAS7 tuning.

Go for it; that's what I did! See my post earlier in this thread. I filled with black epoxy (yeh, lazy but it worked) and filed away. Do it yourself , get a full set of bass/guitar files and off you go.
