Double Bass Recommend a dependable patch cable?

I've been using the same Long & McQuade generic instrument cable for about 25 years. It performs beautifully. Hundreds and hundreds of gigs and practices and sessions and what-have-you.
Is the long service because it's such a good quality cord? Absolutely not. It's because:
1) I never drop the connector ends on the floor, thereby damaging -- cracking and eventually breaking -- the solder connections inside; If you're in some kind of hurry and you feel you have to drop the connector, drop it on your foot and cushion the blow with your foot; and,
2) Because I'm an electricity utility employee, I long ago was shown the right way to coil wire. When I coil up my patch cord, I coil it up just like it came off the reel. NO TWISTING of the conductors inside.
Take it from an old guy: treat your average joe cable right and it will last almost forever. Spend as much as you want on all that high-end audio stuff (a dubious expenditure to these ears and this wallet), but if you treat the cable like crap it won't last long at all.
