Recommend a driver

Hey y'all, looking for recommendations for a driver replacement. Guy in my band has a Hartke 1155 Combo (single 15" and a single 5"). Said it was making bad noises so I brought it home last night to check it out and the 15" is toast. Amp section is fine.

Speaker out on head says:
240w @ 8 ohms
350w @ 4 ohms

Gathered some specs on the cab from this old thread:
3.0 cu feet net internal
2 round ports 4" dia., 2.5" long

Don't know anything about the internal crossover.

Can I get some specific recommendations for good sturdy drivers? I still don't really understand what most of the numbers/stats mean on the driver info PDFs, so I need some help.

The owner says this is the second time he's fried the 15" in it, so I'm gonna lecture him about amp abuse, and maybe superglue the 30hz eq slider all the way down, but anything else y'all can suggest to would be welcome. For example in the thread I linked above, Duke suggested putting longer port tubes (5") in to lower the tuning freq a touch.

Ya, lowering the tuning should help some.

Legend CB158 and Kappalite 3015 behave pretty good in smallish cabs. Not sure how their impedance curves would match up with the crossover. May want to try to see what the lowpass is, and maybe check out the impedance curves in Eminences small cab design pdf's?

Well.....?
:)

A direct replacement from Hartke is always an option, their customer service is too notch.

If the guy was turning up his bass knob a lot trying to fill up the lowend, that'll overwork the speaker more easily.

The Eminences mention have good excursion and could take a little more of that bass boosting, if that's what's going on. If he just turned it up too loud for too long and birned the coil, stacking another speaker with it may be the way to go. Could prolly get another older Hartke 15 for pretty cheap.

Getting a pic, or diagram of the crossover board woukd help folks decipher what's going on there.

Well Will, I owe you an apology. I finally pulled the grill off the cabinet to see how bad the driver was and turns out the glue had failed on the dust cap and it was flapping against the cone. Came back here to search that issue specifically and it appears to be a rather common issue.

A good bit of medium CA, let it sit overnight, I just played through it for over an hour at full volume and it's all fixy fixy.

I shoulda at least pulled the grill before posting about replacement drivers and wasting your time. I thank you for your assistance though....

I figured I'd better come back and put some closure on this thread for the sake of future searchers.

Why don't we have a face palm smiley?
