recommend a mixer.

Could someone recommend an affordable mixer, I've been looping in the 300 range.

Here is what I need(preferred):
a firewire out(for recording)
at least 3 vocal mic inputs
4 other inputs for guitars/bass, acoustic and electric would be best

Barebones(If what I want with a decent quality isn't possible cheap)
a firewire out
2 vocal mic
2 guitar inputs

The reasons I choose a mixer as opposed to one of those "interfaces" is because I'd like to use it with a powered speaker as a mini PA of sorts for jamming. Or just songwriting.

I don't know much about mixers, and I would rather not be forced to sit at the computer and piss around with the tracks to get them to sync up, but I'd like to have the ability to do a little editing.

Poor man pays twice, am I missing out on much by looking in the $300 range?

Check out the Helix boards from Phonic..T have the 12 channel model and am very happy with it.

Mine came with Cubebase LE recording software for free.

A&H Zed series would be perfect. The 14channel is around $450 a little more then you want to spend but well worth it and comes with Cubase. Great quality boards their Mixwizard line is a go to recommendation for a budget board and from what I've read the Zed is essentially the same with a slightly different feature set.

That's USB not firewire. For $300 you could get something like this: Link Removed
which looks pretty decent. This gives you 8 inputs and it also comes with Cubase LE. Before you get anything with Firewire though, make sure your computer has a capable Firewire chip (TI is best, most others will cause problems). This unit also has no Vista support FYI (I hope you're not running vista anyway).
