Recommend me a DI pedal

Been looking around but the best I can see is a Sansamp Bass DI or the Aguilar Tone Hammer.
Got up to around £200, any other ideas?
Depends, what exactly do you want from it? Since you mention those two, which have EQ and distortion features, are you specifically looking for those features?

The REDDI is way out of your budget - so IMHO, the next two best and within your budget is Countryman 85 and Radial J48.
Yea, I'm sorry I misread the OP post,..don't read about the budget until I reply :)

OK I think for that budget, I'm gonna recommend you Radial, JDI if passive or JDV if active, they're good IMHO

yes you're right. IDK about good DI which have those features tho...things like that is more a pre-amp thing for me...

I am really liking the MXR M80 bass DI. You can get a wide range of tones out of it and it cost less than the others without sacrificing quality.

I was in the same boat you're in. I was considering the Sansamp VT DI and original Sansamp, Tone Hammer, etc...Played them all - decided the m80 was for me.

+1 Yep. Good call bongo.

OP: NOTE - my recommendations (see post #4) is for a DI box only. If you're looking for a preamp/DI - FWIW, I'm hoping to replace my BDDI with the new coming MXR M81 Bass Preamp/DI because I don't like the limited BDDI EQing (hi/lo boost/cut only - no mid).

EDIT: OP, I see bongomania is going to help you, so I'm going to bailout of the thread because it will probably be less confusing that way and you're in good hands with bongo too. Cheers

Will someone please tell me what a DI does?? I play a bass through an amp and leave it at that---more out of ignorance than anything else. Sorry to get this thread off track but it will help me make sense out of your suggestions.

What's the advantage of the new M81 over the M80 ? The M81 seems to cost more and have fewer features.

Only advantage I can see is the smaller footprint and no distortion channel. The distortion channel can also be used as a second clean-boost channel.

For $140 I don't think anything can beat the M80

A DI (direct box) is used to couple hi impendence devices (instruments, etc) to low impendence devices (mixing consoles, etc) IE: 1/4" unbalanced to XLR balanced.

The new coming MXR 81 Bass Preamp is clean (no distortion) and has an added ground lift switch, and etc. Google it and check it out. Cheers

I like having a separate passive DI. A good passive is reliable as a stone. The Radial JDI mentioned above sounds fantastic and could drive nails. There is nothing wrong with active DIs and nothing wrong with preamp/DI combos, but more complexity means more can go wrong. I am running a Verellen Meatsmoke with a JDI. Great combo in my opinion.
