Depends, what exactly do you want from it? Since you mention those two, which have EQ and distortion features, are you specifically looking for those features?Been looking around but the best I can see is a Sansamp Bass DI or the Aguilar Tone Hammer.
Got up to around £200, any other ideas?
Yea, I'm sorry I misread the OP post,..don't read about the budget until I replyThe REDDI is way out of your budget - so IMHO, the next two best and within your budget is Countryman 85 and Radial J48.

OK, so do you prefer a fatter or darker vintage tone, a brighter or cleaner modern tone, or any other particular voicing? Have you listened to soundclips of the Sansamp BDDI and VT?Guess I am seeing it as more of a preamp, then if my amp dies, I can DI straight into the desk.

A DI (direct box) is used to couple hi impendence devices (instruments, etc) to low impendence devices (mixing consoles, etc) IE: 1/4" unbalanced to XLR balanced. Will someone please tell me what a DI does?? I play a bass through an amp and leave it at that---more out of ignorance than anything else. Sorry to get this thread off track but it will help me make sense out of your suggestions.
The new coming MXR 81 Bass Preamp is clean (no distortion) and has an added ground lift switch, and etc. Google it and check it out. CheersWhat's the advantage of the new M81 over the M80 ? The M81 seems to cost more and have fewer features.
Only advantage I can see is the smaller footprint and no distortion channel. The distortion channel can also be used as a second clean-boost channel.
For $140 I don't think anything can beat the M80
Can I translate this to English?A DI (direct box) is used to couple hi impendence devices (instruments, etc) to low impendence devices (mixing consoles, etc) IE: 1/4" unbalanced to XLR balanced.
