Recommend me a replacement P pick up

The EMG GZR is my favorite pickup out of of everything I've tried from Fender, Aguilar, Nordstrand and others.

Clear and and aggressive when you want it, mellow but still very articulate when you don't

Funny, I put a set of Labella 760FL's on this bass and it sounds PERFECT! I have this Nordstrand NP4a in hand and was ready to install, but with these strings it sounds d@mn near perfect and I'm afraid to mess with it. Who knows, I'll prob drop the nord in at some point, but I don't want to mess with it now that I'm diggin the sound.

I'll be surprised if you don't like the Nordy when you try it. ;)

cool sound. I never go for distorted tones typically unless I'm soloing (weird I know), but I like how the AO sounds with the OCS. Cant tell how much of that is the BDDI or the MXR but the result is pretty great. Nice work! Do you have any clips of that bass clean?

Thanks brother.

No clean samples up yet, but I recorded a few with flats for a cab shootout I'm currently doing with Fearless, Barefaced, LDS and Audiokenisis cabs.

Keep an eye on that YouTube channel, the final ~15 minute comparison video will definitely be up before NAMM

To be honest I have put a lot of standard Fender P Bass pups in a lot of instruments! They are always good! Punk, Grind, Funk and Jazz! The standard type sold in US around $60 to $70 are in fact standard 62'a that are put in almost all Fenders now made anywhere, according to an email I received 12 to 14 months ago. Change your sound according to your strings and intonation. The following people I have confidence in when I need stuff made: I use a great guy in the US name of Michael Muhr and he has a FB page. He is a great communicator which is hard for some winders! Seymour Duncan are great for one off's I found but unless you buy instantly or your big business it's harder for them to give up time (understandable). With Michael you can establish a relationship to help sculpted your pups. I also have had 2 or 3 sets from Bloodstone Guitars in the UK. Again nice people to deal with. Those guys also make wiring harness if you need that! I'll include one other from here in Spain. His name is Jess Loureiro, He has produced both P 51 Single Coil and Split P Bass. Jess is a great pup winder and take serious care of his builds but you need to do all your talking before each build. Once it's shipped to you he honors his guarantees (I never had a problem) but he is a crap communicator once its posted, till the next build when he becomes 100% your attention! So there you go. Cannot be more honest than that! Good Luck!

Hello I see you’ve had experience with the bloodstone guys and was wondering if you have used there pups as I was going to buy a wiring harness and when I spoke the the bloke he said they also do pups for the p bass I’m upgrading.Ive got to admit they look great but I can’t much info on them.?

Sorry to be slow getting to this. I'm not getting notifications of a message? Yes his work is clean. I cannot imagine Bloodstone UK could screw up winding a pup. If your looking for an authentic Fender 51 pup buy it from a Fender dealer on Ebay. If your concerned that Fender has changed the windings the original build information is out there. If I were in that situation I would ask a winder to build to that spec! Michael at Prima Customs USA makes everything, and he can make a pup to original spec and you will get it. He has made me an amazing stacked 51 type so its a Humbucker @9.1k for one of my Partscaster Bass. He also coloured it 'the flat work', to blend with a CS Rosewood Veneered body. He will also match to any colour or tint of your instrument. The man is an artist. Here in Spain Jess is brilliant but after sales comms are crap. But hey I buy a lot of custom pups and never had to send any back. I prefer to make my own harness unless i'm not well enough then I order from one of these guys. I tried a cheaper guy on Ebay a couple of years ago and one harness didn't arrive. He sent me another Gratis, but it had dry joints and the tail for the bridge missing . Also some cheaper builders do not build 100%. One guy admitted on the phone he bought in bulk part assembled harness and spent 5 minutes finishing them and popping them in the post! Good Luck
