Double Bass Recommend something personal!

And if possible explain shortly (or long if you feel like it) why that tune, walking line, solo, etc. is personal and why do you recommend it!

I'll start with



I recommend it because it's my favourite P.C. solo, it seems that Art Taylor knows exactly what P.C. is going to play (with his kicks) and features an interesting development of a motif (of two notes), which is crazy cool.
It's personal because it's the last thing I had interest in before dropping out of conservatoy and not touching the bass for 6 months.

I’m a huge fan of Lee Rocker. He was my Slap God when I first started playing upright bass. He had a blues side project called Big Blue in the late 90s and it’s great stuff. He has a good voice for that genre of music as well. This tune “The Hucklebuck” was one of the first slap solos I learned how to play off a record cause I was just blown away with how its simplicity makes it awesome. Less is more when it comes to a great bass solo. It also was one of the first times I had heard a primarily rockabilly DB player inject a little pizz jazz scale action into the end of his solo (which starts at 1:24). He was also nice enough to show me how to play it when my band opened up for Big Blue in 1998. These are Jargar dolces with magnetic pickups BTW. Slapping steel strings and his hands were like iron. Crazy man crazy.
