Recommend USB audio interfaces.

So I've been getting into recording a lot lately. I've made some sloppy recordings off an old digital recorder. (A Fostex MR-8, if anyone's interested.)
Here's an example.

I've graduated now and got a MacBook Pro as a gift and I'd like to start recording into GarageBand and eventually move on to a better DAW.

My question to you all is, what are some cheap but effective USB audio interfaces you'd recommend for recording into a laptop. GarageBand specifically.

Something like the Tascam US-144mkii seems to be just what I'm looking for. Anybody have experience with one?

I am looking into these as well, I just want to record my bass, as well as some music play along from my iphone/ computer.

I am looking at the Focusrite 2i2, but can get a used MAudio FAst Track Pro, with more inputs/ outputs and midi for less money.

Anyone have experience with the Fast Track Pro?
