Recommendation for a graphic EQ pedal for bass

Hello everyone,

I've decided I would like to get a graphic eq pedal for a pedal board I'm slowly putting together. I've read rave reviews about the Whirlwind Bass Ten. Does anyone here own or have used this pedal? I know Ed Friedland seemed to like it. The only thing is that it's not cheap... it costs a minimum of $200, but of course, good products aren't cheap.

Do you all recommend any other graphic eq pedals? What I'm primarily looking for is something tailored to bass and that won't sound clinically sterile.

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

Definitely give the SA PEQ a try, unless you need physical sliders. $149 new and less used of course. It's a 7-band with an "octave extend" mode, providing an additional frequency band @ 62 hz. 4 presets, can be used as clean boost and can even get into overdrive/distortion territory. The auto-scroll function provides a neat effect of its own also.

I went the budget route. Boss GEB-7. Is it astounding... no. But it does the job, includes a buffer and can kick up your signal strength for the effects/amps to follow. And it set me back a whopping $50-60 if i recall correctly.

I'm sure there's better out there, but this does everything i need and more. I just couldn't jsutify getting something more elaborate (or expensive).

There's a few about, The Markbasss MB7 is very good, as is the old Trace Elliot 7 band SM unit which pops up second hand every now and then. Moer do a tiny 5 band if size is a concern. It's a pity no one's made a good 12 band Graphic for the bass yet (outside of a Trace Elliot head). MXR do a good 10 band and a useful 6 band. The biggest issue here is power requirements, most of these units need either 12v or 18v.

I am seconding the SA PEQ. I have one and it is by far the nicest, easiest, best sounding EQ Ive ever worked with. I cant say that Ive worked with a ton of them, but the few that I have, the SA PEQ beats them hands down. Tuned very well for bass.

I've owned the boss bass eq along with a couple rack units. Really not a fan of graphic EQs these days. They are really noisy. You may not realize it just going through your bass rig but in the PA and the studio they add a lot of "white noise" hissing stuff.

There are plenty of options depending on what you want. You could get a cheap boss odb3 and just leave the gain down and use the eq. You can use a bbe sonic stomp which is basically a 2 band EQ. If your going for a low pass filter type of vibe you can even use a deluxe bass big muff. There are also endless sans amp pedals, Aguilar tone hammer, Eden wtdi and so on that will give you more eq control.
