The Old Town on East 19th (give or take). Street food like kebab carts. I don't miss much about living in New York, but I do miss food carts.

I ate street food almost exclusively. Lots of shawarmas, gyros, & falafels. You can eat them while you walk, which is a bonus when you're trying to hit 10 destinations in one day.
Some of the best was down in Chelsea & also up in Harlem.

If you want good Chinese food, Flushing is a LOT better than many places you will find in Chinatown.

The rec for "walking food" is a good one.

Otherwise, Ottos Tacos for a quick sit-down, or Veselka diner for a longer sit-down (2nd Ave at E 9th street, near STOMP)

Hi, Mike! I don’t remember the beer, but I don’t remember what I had for breakfast most days. It was a great night. I’m thinking it was 2005 or 2006. Life has been, well - interesting...

Thanks all. We've found a variety of places mid-town mostly. Heading downtown and Brooklyn in the coming days. One woman we met said NYC is great for any kind of food except Mexican. Found a nice little Cuban place on 6th Ave between 38th & 39th. Can't remember the name.

The best Mexican food is from food trucks. The only ones I’m familiar with are on Roosevelt ave in Queens but I’m sure there are great ones somewhere in the city.

We'll be going to Jackson Heights to see the neighborhood where my mother lived in the late 1940s. She was a stewardess & flew out of LaGuardia. Anyplace worthwhile there? Edit: JH I mean, not LaGuardia.

This place is Columbian but there’s a bunch of other trucks. Basically the ones with long lines are excellent. It’s the next neighborhood over from Jackson heights but the same general area.

2 brothers pizza on 38th and 8th.

$1 slices that kick butt.

Lazarra Pizza 38th between 7th and 8th. One of the owners, Tony, is a great drummer I play with regularly. Tell him Joe Nerve sent ya and he'll maybe be real nice to ya . That's more of a gourmet pizza kinda place though. Also kick major but! They have Italian food too. Nice atmosphere than 2 bros.
