I'm looking to get a new multi-track recorder and I don't know what recorders would be good choices. I want something with very good sound quality, and around 12 tracks. I'll be buying used, probably off ebay, and I'm hoping to spend around $500. Most importantly, I need something that's very easy to use; I am completly computer ********. Any suggestions welcomed, thanks

I think you might want to look at getting a used Mackie 12 channel mixer and an old ADAT machine. The ADAT is only 8 channels, but you could buy two and hook them up together for 16 tracks. The ADATs can be a little flakey, but people rarely use them any more but there were tons sold so you can often find people actually giving them away. The ADATs have a little bit of a bad rep from some people, but there were multi-million selling records done on them.

This will get you up and recording without having to turn on a computer.
