recommendations?

currently i have a 300 watt behringer head with a 1000 watt behringer cab
i am looking to upgrade heads first and i have had my eye on Gallien Krueger 1001 rb-II
is this too big of an upgrade or are there any other amps you would recommend for me
any help would be appreciated :)

The GK is not "too big of an upgrade", unless you were planning on quitting bass soon. Aside from that, the only way anyone can make a recommendation for you is if you give this info first:
-your budget
-the style(s) you want to play
-the size and type of venue you play in
-the things that you do and don't like about your current amp
-any famous sounds you want to emulate; it's great if you can post an MP3 or Youtube clip so people can hear what you like.

umm budget is not that big of a deal
im just gonna save up for whichever one i get
i play a lot of christian rock kind of stuff and im in the process of learning blues
the main thing i dont like about my amp is that my sound variation is limited and it doesnt have as much power as i want

IMO you should get a 700rbII and use whats left to go towards a new cab, unless you're completely satisfied with you Berhinger cab that is.Ive got a 700rbII and a Neo 212 and it can thumppppp. Many people say the 1001rbII doesnt get the growl going until it hits high volume but Ive never used one so I dont know for a fact. But Im sure that is up for debate and Im definately sure you wont go wrong with a GK head.

Oh and no, its nto overkill. Theres no such thing IMO, if youre too loud turn it down and your problem is solved.
