I ended up getting a Lawson from craigslist. It's an exact copy of the Washburn AB20, but with much lower craftsmanship. $140.
I could hold my own with an acoustic guitar, and maybe a mandolin or two, but anything more and I'd be drowned out acoustically.
It's great to have sitting around the house, as practice becomes immediate, and I can play anywhere, including the porch.
At first I was impressed by the big boomy sound it made when plugged in, but over time have become less enchanted.
So, it's average sounding and I don't care if it gets sandy, dirty, etc.
