Recording Bass Into Protools

Hey Janek,

I was wondering what your process is for recording your bass into protools, for instance over a track or in a session someone sends you to overdub on and/or on sessions your the leader on. Do you just run the bass direct into pro tools through an interface if your recording at home? I remember you mentioning the Avalon U5 preamp but do you use that in every studio scenario? What other steps would you take when recording bass directly into pro tools to get the "best" sound from a producer's and musician's standpoint? Thanks for any all of the insight.

I normally go directly into the board when I'm recording at home. It really depends on the kind of music. For demo stuff, or for overdubbing on other people's projects in my home studio time is really of the essence, so I'll be a quick as I can while still delivering a great sound. If it's more of a studio project and there's time and space to work with I sometimes experiment with mics on a live rig in the studio, especially if it's a rock project and I want some extra dirt in the sound from an SVT or something like that....

Easy,

Janek
