Ok. I have a new computer.. Its a gateway. Its got a good sound blaster audigy audio IEEE 1394 (FireWire) and Pinnacle Expression... When I am recording bass or through a mic, I don't get any sound out of the speakers... when I hit play though I get the sound fine.. Is there anything I can do so that I will be able to hear what i am playing without the use of my amp?

Recording Bass with a computer

if your recording in 24(32bit) try 16bit,
if your currently playing a MP3 or any audio while recording, stop it
if your CD-AUDIO in your volume mixer is not muted, MUTE IT (that causes lotsa noises and ppl seem to miss that one!)
also, mute anything else your not using...... try those out see if it helps... if not maybe someone else could help? thats all i can think of
Just got Nuendo running on my PC and I'm having serious latency problems. I suspect the main source of trouble is the fact that this computer came with a sound "card" that's integrated into the motherboard. More RAM wouldn't hurt either, I'm sure. Any suggestions on a PCI card that will give the most bang for the buck? I could squeeze by with 4 inputs, although 8 would be nice!

I want to start recording using my computer
I was reading through this thread and didnt really understand so here are some questions
Will i need a new sound card?
i had a look at the back of the computer and there is three sound hole a green one which is the speakers...blue one there is nothing in it and a pink one where the microphone is
and if i dont need a sound card where do i plug my bass in...i have a digitech bp 200 as well will that help??

I know how to use cool edit
can i use this to record the tracks and mix them?

I found out how to solve my latency problems: the Aardvark Directpro Q10 breakout box. It has 8 inputs, each with a discrete mic pre and XLR inputs, shielded pci card, zero latency monitoring and a bunch of other good stuff! It can be had for about $750.00; not too bad and it is very highly rated.
I'm scraping up the cash to get one now.
Bassman_spike: you too will need some sort of breakout box/sound card if you want to get any decent tracks with no latency (delay) in monitoring. You can go in through the pink input on your computer, but it will sound like sh*t, have lots of latency and be noisy. You will also need something like Cubase or Nuendo software. There are many others as well.

My Band is saving up to get a sound card, a recording program and a bunch of mic's (mainly for the drums). But the only thing we know about computers is how to play games and stuff. We're considering buying a M-Audio sound card (probably one of the better ones they bring out) is this a good/bad move in peoples opinions, can we get better in a similar price range.
i just pluged my digitech bp 200 into the pink hole at the back of the computer and just used sound recorder to see if it would would...it does but as you said it was really bad sound....all distorted
