Recording Help finding source of hum and pops

I've been driving myself nuts trying to find the source of this hum and pop sound.
here is an audio example of just recording with bass plugged in pushing the input gain way up to like 90% and monitor level at 100% so way up past normal listening level.

It's not very noticeable at normal mix volume but i am assuming there should be fairly dead quiet, maybe i am wrong and this is normal.
Gear used is a focusrite Clarett8pre on a 2015 macbook pro laptop

I've removed my pedal board chain, and any external DI's so just plugging bass directly into the interface.
I've tried various skjold/Ibanez/bacchus basses and cables too and the sound still persists.
I've also tried updating to the latest focusrite driver with no success.
I've also verified the noise with headphones directly on the focusrite interface.
If nothing is plugged into the focusrite its silent too.
Also i've tried removing mac power adapter and any usb devices, hdmi to monitor cable...still persists.

The hum is obviously 60-cycle hum. Single coil or humbucking pickups? Do you have any light dimmers around?
The click sounds like a metronome click... many recording programs have the metronome turned on by default, and you have to remember to turn it off.

Hey thanks for chiming in, The basses i've tested are all humbucking, no light dimmers around.
This hum/click is outside of any daw/recording program its just idle as the bass is plugged in.
The example recording was done with very high input gain just to capture it.

If turning up the input gain makes it worse, the problem is either before or in the preamp on the interface. If it happens with every input on the focusrite, you can be sure the problem is before the preamp. It could be a bad cable/bad ground in the bass. Fluorescent lights may hum without a dimmer. If you turn the bass/rotate your body at a different angle, does the hum change? I don't have the soundcloud app tho and can't get your clip to play. Is the clicking possibly cell phone interference?

Just got it to play, the clicking isn't cell phone interference as it's at regular intervals. Do you wear an analog watch?

i did look at all my nearby electronic / analogue devices moved them around, turned them off and on with no luck. Also no watch...I think your right about my bass proximity to something, either the focusrite or monitor i bet. I just plugged it in and left it 10 feet away the click is now happening once every 30 seconds or so.

I would bet the source of the hum is your computer. I play and record to an interface with my laptop and I get the exact same noise if my bass in anywhere near it.

To test if this is the problem, bring your bass within arms length of your macbook to see if the noise gets louder.
