Again, i agree. it's free. It will only cost you your time... And maybe a little pride when you hear the results!!!
Thanks for the responses. We had a discussion about the subject last night with everyone agree that we maybe moving fast but need to take advantage of the offer. Recording will start next week with some of the band and I'm curious of the results. It will be interesting!!

I would like to get some opinions from some fellow bassists. I'm in a 5 piece band that consist of 2 guitars, keys, drummer and myself on bass. We have played 1 gig so far with it going ok. Our gig was the first for 3 of the members with the other member having one other gig before ours. I have several dozen under my belt now. We have 3 original songs that are completed with 2 in the works but nothing charted out with the 2 new songs.
Our drummer has a friend that just opened a protools studio and is willing to produce the EP for free. The drummer and one of the guitarist are going to start recording next week.
My concern is that we are recording way to soon. At our gig, we were only able to play 2 out of the 3 correctly with the drummer making the majority of the mistakes. On one song, he ended the song about 12 measures to soon and on the other,he rested 2 measures to soon. Every practice, we have to tell the drummer to slow down because he speeds up on almost every song. Our "lead" guitarist sounds awful and is not able to play a good solo. Fortunately, the lead guitarist knows this and wants to bring in a 3rd guitarist as lead.
And the issue that is bothering me the most, we had a band vote with the band agreeing to wait until August to start recording to get our stuff together and get tight on the music. 3 days later, the drummer states that he has booked the recording studio and that we will start recording in 2 weeks. When I joined, we were a democracy with majority wins the vote but the drummer is doing many things without bring it to the band. Examples, hired an artist to make album covers, changed the name of the band. I feel that I'm the only one who practices their instrument outside of rehearsal.
Right now, I see a complete train wreck about to happen. I feel that the recording process is going to take a long time and that the band is going to get burned out. Worse of all, I see a crappy EP coming out and I don't want my name on it if it's crap. I have tried to tell the band this many times with negative results.
So my question is, I'm overacting and causing too much drama?Please let me know and if you need more details, I'll provide them to you.

Well, if everyone knows their part - go record the 2 finished songs. Personally, I think the sooner the better - while the songs are still fresh and exciting and before they get stale and or overworked. And record other song(s) as soon as they’re finished and "ready".
EDIT: On the other hand, if the friend doing the recording is a newbie - go record somewhere else!!!
eh... if its free (and youd have to pay for it if you wait) ..cant hurt to try it. and you can just throw it away if it sucks..or use it as a learning tool. But it's an experience anyway..

As has been stated, you should all know (or be able to play) the stuff pretty good if its goin on "tape".

I say go for it. Nothing will make you play better than having a recording you have to live up to. Recording will teach you an awful lot also that will make you better players. Will be a good demo disc and something to put on Soundcloud. All this assuming they are two good songs.

Man I had forgotten about those horrid "Ghetto Blaster" 8 track tape recordings we made in the 70's.
Also a guitarist that can not solo is NOT a "lead" guitarist.
