Yep - WAV or even MP3. My buddy across the country just sends me a rough mixdown for me to record my part against; I drop it into my DAW, record, return a WAV of my bass part for him to add to the mix.

Check out BandLab....what used to be Cakewalk after Roland sold it in. I have an account, seems like a highly useful platform but I have not used it in a real life collaborative setting.

That wouldn't work as bandlab is Windows only and one of them uses Mac.

Both of you can just use reaper, export BWF's, and compress/transfer them using 7zip and Wetransfer. Your files and edits should simply snap into place on the other end.

The BandLab DAW is browser based SaaS. I've run it using Safari Chrome on OSX. Platform doesn't matter. Are you thinking of Cakewalk, aka the former SONAR, perhaps?

I do this all the time. Record my parts as individual .wav files, place them in drop box and the others pick them up, import them into an open track and they’re good to go. I do the reverse as send, send a mix via drop box, my partner will record a vocal and return just the vocal which I then drop into my project. It doesn’t matter what kind of daw either of us has as long as it can export/import individual tracks.

Must add the one of us is the designated Mix Master for a given tune - and stereo placement, volume and fix on each track and master mix is that person’s task.

This is exactly what we do. Works great for us.

I just transfer wav files. Even if they use the same DAW, chances are we don't have the same VSTs, so the project file isn't necessarily useful. This even works if you don't have a click track, and the drums actually have tempo variation. Just render wavs from t=0:00.00 to the end of the track. Anytime you add a part, send it, and the other person imports it.
