Recording with a Live Cab in the same room

I.e. it's running from the amp to the cab and the interface at the same time.......is this going to affect my recording sound (i.e. the huge noise in the same room going to be picked up on the pickups)

My guess is yes.

My initial response is that it wouldn't be much of an issue, but it seems like you could easily prove your interesting theory by simply recording the sound of an extra (un-played) basses DI signal thats just sitting in the same room, while you play the other bass through your amp/cab. I'd think the finished recording would end up giving you a pretty good idea of the pickups bleed factor.

PS:
Set your un-played basses recording level where you normally would for DI recording, to achieve the most accurate test results.

I don't think I understand what you're asking. Are you saying you're worried that the volume of the signal coming from the cab (which I guess is mic'd?) is going bleed into your pick ups?

I can't see how that bleed would seriously affect your sound (unless there's some sort of weird effect I don't know about), create an echo effect or something?

I wonder if what he's talking about is sympathetic vibration of strings being picked up. If so it's just a muting problem or turn down the volume when not playing.

I took his post to mean he's only recording direct, but is simply monitoring through his amp/cab.

yeah, I wouldn't suggest micing in the same room that you are working in, but if you are just using the cab as a monitor then I reckon it should be ok? Unless you are really blasting the cab?
