recording with GK.

Hey guys,
I have a Gallien Krueger 800RB. I'm plugging it into my soundblaster X-Fi front console. I'm recording with Sony Acid software. My problem is my Basses sound like POOP being plugged straight into the soundblaster. I'm plugging my bass into the GK and then the GK through the effects loop into the front conole. Problem is it sounds the same because it is post EQ. So I cannot adjust my EQ settings. Do you guys have any tips or ideas for me? Thanks!

Tips for what?

This is how Leviathan was recorded for Mastodon. Not sure if it was effects out or XLR but similar setup. Might want to mic an amp too for blending the signal.
