Redbone Patrick Vegas... his bass....

Redbone was a native american band. Who had a couple of hits. "Wounded at wounded knee" to be the most striking.... But take a listen and you'll find you have heard them before.

I saw the bass player; Patrick Vegas to play an awesome customised Telebass.

What pickups would have been on that bass?

That modded 53-ish P Bass is now owned by a TB'er.
It came up for sale on consignment at Bass NW about 10 years ago, and I went to check it out as I was sort of interested. I seem to recall that it ended up getting a red pickguard made to cover up some of the extra holes.

Came across the video below on YouTube while looking for something else and was fascinated with Patrick Vasquez-Vegas' bass and Acoustic amp set up. What are those mods and what kinda Acoustic rig is it?
Google led me here...to my own backyard...Doh...lol
Who ever the TalkBass member was that bought it, that's a keeper.

As was common at the time to put a Gibson mudbucker out of an EB bass in the neck position, you see this mod a lot on old fender basses. The amp is two Acoustic 360 models , the other cab being on the other side of drummer. It might be a bi-sonic PU but it looks more like a Gibson EB pickup to me, I see no pole piece adjustment screws on it, and the pole piees are pretty much dead center, a bi-sonic would be off center

I currently own that bass, it's in my avatar. The pickup by the neck is a Gibson mudbucker, the bridge pickup is from an 8-string steel guitar

The original single coil was replaced at some point by a split P of unknown make (possibly an early Duncan) at which time the pickguard was added to cover the routing.

Definitely a Gibson EB pickup. I so remember this bass and that performance.

Wow. Redbone! I had almost forgotten about them! I saw them play at least a couple of times in the early 70s in New Mexico. Pretty cool band....good bass player and an excellent drummer. What a small world it is that someone here owns that original bass!

The photo from the dealer I bought it from. I removed the tug bar, left the rest as is. Original: body, neck, control plate, tone pot, one string tree (now has two), string ferrules, knobs. Replaced/modded: everything else. If you look closely you can see where the holes for the original pickguard screws were filled in. It has a light gloss finish over the wood.

Vintage Acoustic 361

Also famously used by others including Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and Jaco Pastorius

361 was rated 200 Watts rms and (1) could easily hold it’s own against 2 guitar stacks

I know because I’ve seen it done.
