A sound tech told me, that once the top goes dark (instead of shine), the tubes are about to die. Is this true?

For once I was hoping we Europeans might have an advantage in the music business (even European made gear being cheaper in the US, than over here)

Question... do newer REDDIs have a textured and darker paint (or is it powder coating)? I just haven't seen any others like this and am curious!

Hi Matt,

The textured paint has been there for 3/4 years now?

The reason why I did that was simple and it seems to be working..........It's the same powder coat but we do a fine clear texture coat over the red powder coat.
This allows you to pick the REDDI up and have a better grip on it and not drop it.

So far it seems to be working I haven't had to repair a dropped REDDI since

That could be one sign .....the others are:

1, Crackles and Pops
2, The gain drops if we are talking the 6N1-P

I just received the V2 version of the VT Bass yesterday. I immediately plugged it into the Reddi. I actually kept turning off the VT so I just heard the Reddi as a reference point because it sounds so good. I wanted to get the VT into the Reddi to sound very close to just the Reddi, and I did. I set the VT to Fliptop settings, disabled the speaker sim, and dropped the Mid a little. That did it.
Now it's like I have a Reddi with a little EQ capability and the slightest bit of drive. That just opened up a few more options for home recording for me, but I still prefer the tone of just the Reddi direct. The Reddi is getting a lot of use, just like a few of you told me it would.

VT bass works great with a REDDI.. just did some demos for a guy in OK over the net... He wanted a micd amp thing.. I used my VT into the REDDI.... he has no idea thats what i used.. and he loved the tracks and tone too

That's exactly my feeling on REDDI and VT. The VT can sound really good...but unless you want some dirt, the REDDI by itself is the bomb and clearly the winner

I've been messing with some recording plugins. Found that I'm digging the amplitube stuff. I used the REDDI to get a good clean track for the client. The copy that track to another and use an
amplitube setup. It's fun experimenting.

So after about a solid week of gigs with the Sovtek back in the REDDI, I kind of miss that brute force mentality of the 1965 tube but I wouldn't mind something that's between the two...they're pretty extreme different. I know they don't sound that way on a bare recording, but in a mix the differences are pretty obvious to me. So I put the 1965 back in it for now, but I think I'm going to try a couple other ones in the near future and see if I can't find a tweener.

You probably don't need this for the number of swaps you are doing as there is not too much of a risk of wearing out the socket on the REDDI. If you do it a lot, you can install a Invalid Link Removed. I find them handy at times and you can't beat the price.
