REDDI Tube DI Mega-thread-III

Is anybody using the REDDI for funk and RnB? I just landed an awesome new gig, but I have to use in ears and there is quite a bit of slap playing involved. Do you think something like the Avalon U5 would be a better fit or will the REDDI sound fine if I'm going for a slightly more hi-fi sound. Thanks for the replies guys!
I play a lot of funk and R&B in my band, and the REDDI slays. I'm not a fan of the U5, quite honestly. People call it "hi-fi" but it just sounds de-balled and too pristine to me. That's not hi-fi to me. I consider the REDDI much more hi-fi, like a good full-on tube amp running clean.

I just had an outdoor benefit this weekend where I brought my REDDI and it just plain killed. Got many compliments from other bands and the crowd on my tone. Thick, meaty and "fat with a PH" were among the many comments. Only pedal I used was an occasional octave. Now I've got to get myself one of those Pelican cases!

Thanks JED...they may be medium duty but I love the sound of those cabs, and they're only 25 lbs each. And yes, the REDDI kills for sure!
I got to hear those puppies just recently and yes they do sound good and they are LIGHT!
That's a major plus too for guys like me with a bad back ;>)
I hear you, Peter. I don't have a bad back, but I'll be honest...it isn't getting any stronger, and while I'd like to think I can still drag an SVT and 810 out on all my one-nighters, I can't. So I'll bring the 210av's most of the time for me and the band and let the REDDI and house do the heavy lifting. Works out quite splendidly for all, although I do still get twinges of jealousy when I hear the REDDI in the house and go back onstage and I don't have an SVT

That SVT is what killed me when I was younger and didn't have the help! I had 2 of those bad boys....I called them Coffins ;>)

Phew! Two, eh? I never had more than one. But they are doggone heavy, no doubt, and I can easily see how they could wreck your back after a while. I have no idea how I avoided back problems all my life, especially considering that I also used to move furniture and pianos for a while and worked at UPS in the preload for 3 years. OTOH, I have this sneaky suspicion that I'm going to bend over to pick up a shoe or something and end up in the hospital for emergency surgery like my brother did.
