REDDI Tube DI Mega Thread . Potential megathread that is.

To my mind a balanced on stage mix where everyone can hear everything well should be everyones idea of nirvana, but the preponderance of ambitions are for megawatt stage amps.

I have a devil of a job keeping everyone happy in the big band, not enough bass for me, too much bass in drum mics, not enough bass for band, bass feeds back....never can get it just right, thinking I'm better off insisting the band gets monitors and I can axe my d180 for a reddi. Not that I'm ready to give up the mesa and can't have both.

Ya, no way I'm giving up the rig. But that is true. The farther away people are from you, the less they're going to hear you. Our keyboard player likes to have me in his monitor because we're on opposite sides of the stage. Having a good monitor system does make everything much better for balancing everyone's particular needs.

Dude, when you're as freakin' wicked as I am, every gig is amazing, with perfect sound and women who are as beautiful as their morals are loose.

Yeah, that's it...

The issue is the unexpected expenses that seen to pop up just in time to sap the gigging money. This time, it was a brake job.

But it'll happen some day. Thing is, I'm not even yet sure how to add the REDDI to my rig (as in, would it be as beneficial when I'm using an amp as it is when I'm going through a PA, etc). I just know that I love what it does to basses. I find that figuring out how stuff works is part of the joy of new stuff, though.

Well it's pretty single minded in purpose so you would have to jump through a hoop or two to get its sound through your amp. It could be done, but it's not its function, so you'd need outboard stuff to accomplish it.

Yeah, I've heard that before. My bad: I was just picking an example out of the aether, and it was a poor one. I mostly play through a board into a PA, so the amp aspect isn't really all that important.

Finally ordered a bag for my REDDI tonight. Got this one from Tuki. Would have been nice for it to have a shoulder strap, but I could just stick it all in a backpack or carry-on suitcase on trips. A little more than I thought I should have to pay, but Tuki does great work and I'll forget that I paid too much soon enough ;)

Just got this sucker for $400.00 CDN. guy used it about 8 times. Amazzzzing DI. Best thing I've heard in ages. Thanks for keeping me from buying the Radial now. Would have been a huge mistake.

One question; I've been told to keep the level knob at full but I notice it immediately peaks the channel on my soundboard. To avoid clipping, the GAIN knob on the mixer's input has to be at (0). Is it a good idea to inform sound people (FOH) NOT to add any gain to the bass channel whilst using the REDDI? Not sure if every sound person out there is aware that they may ruin the tone by adding GAIN. Anyone?

pffft... never mind. my bad. Was using the flippin mic level instead of the line level input. made a huge difference in the gain setting.

and yeah... couldn't believe the price. Wasn't gonna even try to talk myself out of buying it at that price. It's almost half the retail. :cool:

Great price, bro! Nice snag. This business about needing to turn the level up all the way sounds like some of that tube amp mythology where people think the only way to run a tube amp is all the way up. Silliness. The REDDI sounds the same to me at every level I've tried it at from low to high. Don't be afraid to back it down if you're slamming the board's input too hard. I'll run it anywhere from 9:00-12:00 depending on the bass or the board we're using.

Yeah I've noticed the same thing. Doesn't seem to make too much difference. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm keeping the level around 12 o'clock and it sounds just as awesome as full out max. :eyebrow:

True... I run mine at about 12 o clock all the time simply for the fact that it is easy to approximate the position consistently...

Jimmy .. you have been talking for a few years on TB about how Tube amps are not dirty sounding simply because they are tube amps ,, And i Always agreed with you... And still do..

I remember the fights in some threads with some other ninny heads.. It seems that the "Conspiracy Theory" is coming true and they are finally waking up to the facts that you and I talked about.. Its no conspiracy theory.. . Tubes can be, and are clean sounding!

But I love a good "conspiracy theory"... Peter knows all about that.. ahahha

Anyway, I think it's really good that old road dogs like you and I come on here and set some of these punks straight. The internet really seems to have pushed that and other stupid myths along. And what's funny is that these myths get pushed along by people who never touched a tube amp in their lives. They saw Nirvana crank tube amps and now they think that's the only way you can run them.

Internet has created too many "experts" and not enough "learners."

Ok guys, I couldn't take it anymore. I have one of these red boxes coming my way soon, courtesy of MF. My wallet might be a little lighter, but my ears will be happier. I think a few other boxes I have (Sadowsky DI and either my original VT Bass or VTD) may be popping up in the classifieds sooner rather than later.
