Thanks Erik, the top is indeed a sister cut to John P's cocobolo single cut. That birdseye maple fingerboard should be familiar to you;)

Thanks Zach, I hope to add the fanned fret to my lineup of basses soon but with a different body style. I may use this style bridge on all of my fanned fret builds simply because there are not many bridge choices out there for this type of application. Hopefully someday I will get a milling machine and will be able to make this design in brass or aluminum. The customer would also have the choice of using individual type saddles/bridges per string.

I've got a little more done to this one. The neck is shaped, set and the body is rough carved.

The neck had to be set out further then I would normally do so. I had to do this to best position the bridge for the 36" scale on the lower stings side. This makes the area around the lower horn look a bit odd (to me at least), which I did expect, somewhat. I had to see it in real life to see how I liked it...;)

This won't affect the playability, just aesthetics but for this reason I've decided to design a dual cut and single cut body shape just for a fanned fret line up. :)

I started on the pups for this one. I decided to go with a set of dual coils. These will be different then all of my other dual coils, which fit in a Music Man sized cover. These will be the size of a Bart P2 but with an angled design to better suite the multi-scale.

It felt strange winding such narrow bobbins. I can also make really slim single coils in this manner, which would be different then what’s currently offered in today’s market. By switching to a smaller magnet size, (still neos just a smaller diameter) I was still able to achieve 13.5k res. per coil,(27k series!!) which is very respectable even with this small size. I also still have a little room left and according to calculations a little over 15k is possible.

I hope to start the covers for these tomorrow.:hyper:

Pickup covers are built, I bound them with maple. One thing I noticed today is that this bass is going to be really light thanks to the spanish cedar core.

Looking great Scotty. I've got a real nice slab of Cocobolo that I hope to do something with soon. Your bass is sure giving me the itch to get it going.
The oil in the wood is a little concerning with regard to the finish. I recently finished some restaurant tables made of Ipe and wound up spraying an ICA urethane and a sealer (IS203) that the factory rep recommended for oily/exotic woods. It worked out very well.
What have you used in the past and what are you planning on using for this bass finish?
