Redefining a custom bass

Pick-guard and control-plate cut and all holes drilled. I had a number of nice aged screws from my '93 A/S J so will be using those and 'aging' the rest. The pg is creme - looks more creme than this pic shows. A bit more work on the bevels and a coat of sanding sealer to start the finishing process. Oh, and I still need to do a rout for the tr access...

WOW!!! Looks terrific!

This is a good example of trusting the artist. In my mind, the pickguard would be a white perloid "mother of toilet seat" kinda thing. I was also concerned the busy perloid pattern and stripes on the bass would be too much. The cream pg was a great call!

:) Thanks! You answered your own question! (and correctly I might add!) The stripes are as you stated, a busy visual so adding another busy visual would work against both. My vision of it is 'classic retro' that is visually and tactally 'broken in' and user friendly.

Well, you're nailing it!

Btw, I've kinda had a thing for T Birds lately. I'm not usually a fan of heavy relic'ing, but I think this builder gets it right

That's a glorious looking bass to me. Thankfully for my wallet, I had a chance to play a few Fano basses in Chicago and the neck shapes didn't work for me at all. Sure is a pretty bass though!

I've looked at Fano's and they are nicely done. Sandberg's are nice too.

I'm kind of thinking that a black bridge would go with that control plate.

The original bridge on that bass is black and Jio has it, so he can decide. Personally, I like the way the new bridge looks with the knobs :)

I don't think black hw on guitars was done in the 60's, and chrome maintains the vibe we're going for - so other than the pu's, every other pice of hw will be chrome.

That sounds like a winner! I may also get chrome covers at some point, but I want to look at it awhile first :)

I bet there's more than a few of us wondering what Jio has come up with for this bass . The striped " barber shop pole " [ sorry don't know how else to describe it ] look of the original seems like a real challenge to keep in some form yet transform to something more in keeping with Jio's usual artistic splendor . Will be looking forward to the end result for sure ! Kelly
